Secured by Design, or SBD is a security standard that is backed by the UK Police Service. It recognises and promotes high-quality products that have been designed and manufactured to pre-defined standards of security performance. Owners of an SBD garage door will benefit from independent assurance that their garage door has been effectively designed to deter and prevent burglary and theft.
SBD is the police crime prevention initiative, meaning products such as the SeceuroGlide Original and the SeceuroGlide Excel which have been awarded the Secured by Design accreditation are recognised as being the ‘Police Preferred Specification’.
What makes a garage door Secured by Design?
For a product to achieve the SBD rating, it must be manufactured in accordance with the secure standards set by the Secured by Design scheme and independently certified by the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS). Regular production audits and re-tests are carried out by UKAS to ensure the consistency of the product’s certified design.
The Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) is a globally recognised third-party certification body that works with manufacturers and insurers to ensure that fire and security products perform effectively when subjected to attempts at unauthorised access. The LPCB uses a series of standards (Loss Prevention Standards or LPS) to identify and award products that meet the stringent pass requirements set by the LPCB.
Loss Prevention Standard 1175 focuses on the physical security of ‘intruder resistant building components’ used on enclosures such as doors, shutters or garage doors. It measures the product’s level of resistance against attempted forced entry based on the size and types of tools used and the time that assailants will risk spending on an attempt.
The SeceuroGlide Excel was the first roller garage door in the UK to be awarded the LPS 1175, SR1 rating. Products certified to this level provide a higher level of resistance to opportunists attempts at forced entry, using physical force and a limited range of tools. Unlike doors with lower security ratings which can only be tested using ‘stealth’ methods, the SR1 rating covers attempts at forced entry where there is no restriction on how much noise can be made. This meant the SeceuroGlide Excel was able to resist forced entry during a prolonged, more violent and noisy attack.

If security is high up on your wish list, choosing a garage door that has been independently accredited with a security rating will give you added peace of mind that your valuables are protected. As well as being the police preferred specification, Secured by Design is also insurance approved, meaning you could even see a reduction in your insurance premium.
What’s more, regular, independent testing means that we can guarantee that every accredited SeceuroGlide leaving our production line will pass the tests as successfully as the first one.
We’re proud that our most popular roller garage doors; the SeceuroGlide Original and the SeceuroGlide Excel have been independently recognised as having superior design. Compared with cheaper alternatives, both doors will provide superior performance and more reliable protection from attempts at forced entry. However, if your garage is in a particularly vulnerable location, or if it’s home to high-value items, the SeceuroGlide Excel will offer ultimate, proven security and complete peace of mind.
Take at look at the security features that differ from the Excel and the Original roller garage door.
Galvanised steel end plates on the SeceuroGlide Original & Excel provide a sturdier design and increased security when compared with aluminium end plates.
100 mm fluted axle, extruded aluminium hinges and top rail, provide greater strength when the door is in operation and in the locked position.
Both the Original and the Excel come with auto locking as standard for greater security, preventing the door from being lifted by an intruder. Centralised locking blocks ensure better running of the door during operation.
Webbing on each side of the curtain provides additional security whilst also reducing the noise made by the curtain for smooth, ultra-quiet operation.
The SeceuroGlide Excel boasts Secured by Design and insurance approved Level One Security Rating for internal face and reveal fixtures.

Secured by Design and LPCB approved.
The SeceuroGlide Excel uses the advanced design of the Original but has also been awarded the LPS1175 burglary resistance standard following independent testing by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB). A unique, reinforced design that includes an innovative locking bottom slat enabled it to become the first garage door of any kind to successfully complete independent testing which is recognised on a national level.
Secured by Design.
The SeceuroGlide Original has a unique locking system that uses auto-locking, preventing the door from being lifted by an intruder. An uprated axle and galvanised steel endplates also add to SeceuroGlide Original’s enhanced security. The innovative design means SeceuroGlide Original has been awarded the prestigious Secured by Design status; a police initiative that recognises good design for reducing crime.
